COOL HUNTING is synonymous with seeking inspiration. They’ve got a global team of editors and contributors who sift through innovations in design, technology, art and culture to create an award-winning publication, they managed to get their hands on our New and world first Anabatic and the consensus is out - sick - lovely job Jose - stoked!
Anabatic craze continues to kick off - Vince, Ed and the crew over at HUCK MAGAZINE, hold a firm belief that many of our heroes have incredible stories to tell and so they have enlisted some of the world’s best photographers and writers to get those stories out to us all, the team is rad, the mag is rad and it just so happens that they think our Anabatic is rad
Then we’ve got the cycling fraternity and fixed gear leeds are taking to the Anbatic, like a bee to honey, more on the Anabatic HERE
So we developed our lightest weight, UK’s first ever recyclable waterproof about two years ago and have been testing it ever since. We had some bike couriers flashing through streets, the climbing world elite scaling mountains and some of the finest photographers in the world, testing them.
The end result is one of our finest and the jury is in - verdict - SICK!!!
Josh Lewsey is back from Everest, he managed to get some time away from London’s lights, he got some surf here in the shire and we managed to get a little one-on-one exclusive. To be honest, it was more than we could have asked for and the picture he painted left us speechless… a bit more on that here

Ian and Tim left last week, destination: some atoll in the middle of the Indian, we’ve never been there and photos are rare. Before they left, we asked them to take a handful of product and to get some shots in the water, wearing them, from our Anabatics to our New merino/cotton blend T’s (Not here yet, but sign up to our newsletter to get the news first).
In any event, as promised, the photo arrived on my desk this morning, with one of our New Merino Cotton Blend T’s, reaching new heights. Beauty shot Tim, way to punt Ian - big smile on the faces on a Monday morning!
He’d gone M.I.A., word was that he’d managed some time across the Mexican border, was sleeping in the back of a Toyota Landcrusier in San Diego and some even mentioned that they saw him swimming/shooting at Puerto, one of the scariest beach breaks on the planet.
Well I’m pleased to say, after an hour and a bit long conversation over the dog and bone, that the man is alive, on good form and word on the street, is that his exploits have once again managed some coverage amongst the elite of surf world.
So good to hear from you Mr. Mackinnon, we’ve missed you, but not as much as your images…
Words and photos By Mack-Attack:
Puerto Escondido; The Mexican Pipeline with Greg and Rusty Long, Healey, Twiggy Baker. The heaviest beach break on earth metinks, the currents, shifting peaks, closeouts and shear power of the place put it up there with Ailleens as the gnarliest place I’ve ever done water shots.

Here’s a little taster of what’s to come, there’ll be a full article shortly replete with the joys of Puerto life (heaving kegs, fresh coconut water, salsa dancing, the best fruit you’ve ever eaten and damn fine fish tacos) and the lows (the death of our friend, talented surfer and videographer and Puerto 16 year veteran Noel Robinson, two lenses breaking, murder and funky weather patterns).

They’ll be there for two and a bit weeks and Tim will be sending in images and stories, by the day. To get the exclusive images, stories and video, sign up to our Newsletter
Tom Podkolinski (TP), Finisterre design director/researcher/leading biomimetic design expert and one of the brains behind our textiles innovation is holding an event and giving a talk in Bristol this Thursday after being approached by Honda’s Power of Dreams innovation series.
The talk at - Start the Bus, a quirky little bar in the heart of Bristol, will cover his work surrounding biomimicry, textiles and explore his award winning eco-design work at Finisterre.
An inspiring night with a little bit for everyone, it will incorporate a wide subject area and include TP’s design inspiration from Anthropology to Natural History and even his work with surfing sheep down here in Cornwall. TP really knows his stuff, and manages to keep us entertained around the clock, so it’s set to be a rad night. Proceedings kicks off from 7 - 9pm and special guest DJs will be hitting the decks from 10pm. See below for the official blurb…and don’t be shy!
The Talk
What is eco design?
What is Biomimicry (design that is inspired by nature) and why is it set to become one of the most important design practices of the 21st century?
Why is textile design a bastion of innovation and change?
Why are narratives at the centre of the information revolution and what does this mean for designers?
With years of experience in lecturing and research, each of these subjects will be explored thoroughly and presented in a way that is relevant for all comers. He is looking forward to sharing his passions with you so please take the time to come and get involved.
The workshop will be followed by a set from Honda’s “SPECIAL GUEST” DJs and more free food and drinks!
Dave, Jeff and Steve came to us a couple of years ago, we knew Dave from a piece he wrote on Finisterre and the rest - history. Dave and the boys wanted to chase an experience, raise some money and take a car over 8000 miles from Cornwall to Mongolia.
We weren’t in a place to get behind them financially, but to think that 3 Etobicokes and some base layers were going to find there way from west and Eastern Europe; across Turkey into Central Asia; up through the beautiful forests of Georgia; into Azerbaijan and along the old Silk Road: Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, through the beautiful mountains of Kyrgyzstan and Kazahkstan; and finally to Russia - was an inspiring thought.
They made it and with more stories then you can shake a stick at and images to last a life time. Rad to have been a part and job done on the funds raised, hugfest boys - more on the story below:
Cornwall to Mongolia in a 1.2-litre Fiat Punto, as part of the annual Mongol Rally. All to raise money for Cornwall Hospice Care, and to get ourselves into some properly weird situations.
It took six weeks to get to the Mongolian border. In that time our car had carried us through 8,000 miles of world culture, seeing first-hand the incremental changes from the clay country of Stenalees, through countless corrupt borders and checkpoints, to the edge of the Mongolian steppes.
In that time we camped in the wilds, buried our own turds, encountered camel carcasses and loads of drunk Mongolians, and were generally reduced to wrecks by the stunning wild scenery.
On day 49 of the trip we were almost home, when we approached a steep desert hill and found a Mongolian van lying on its side at the bottom, its roof overloaded with crap and its windows smashed on the sand, with a crowd of people gathered round a body beside it. Steve went over to help out - patching the guy’s smashed skull together with bandages. We left as the ambulance arrived. The guy had started gurgling, and we didn’t want to be around when things turned hysterical. A sobering end to six weeks of folly.
We had to auction the Punto, which we reckon went for around a grand. No idea how or why. Soon enough we were flying home. We’d raised £5k for Cornwall Hospice Care, and £1k for Mercy Corps in Mongolia. Plus whatever the car made. We’d had an incredible laugh.
Etobicokes and the finish line - epic
If you’re toying with a similar trip, do it. It’s nuts. But remember to heed our well-proven philosophy:
A couple of our customers were asking us for a video demonstrating how the Etobicoke packs aways into a pillow, perfect for camping, festivals and cool evenings. We havn’t filmed one yet, so we put the word out asking for a home video, and Shayne via twitter kindly sent us over this little short he made…
