We’re always happy to hear what you think of our gear, so we were stoked to find out that someone’s made a one minute video review of our etobicoke jacket! Michele is an intrepid traveller and photographer. He has two etobicokes, one for at home in Italy and another for travelling. According to his blog, Michele is a self confessed ‘gear nut when it comes to travelling’. Check out his video review above, and his blog
Glad you like it Michele, great use of a minute!
We’re always fired up by your feedback here in the workshop, so whether your using our gear on the street or in the great outdoors, make sure to send any photos, videos or reviews this way!
This Weekend we’ll be celebrating James Bowthorpe’s record breaking cycle around the world in London, all in the name of Parkinson’s Disease research. We had mentioned earlier, that a celebration fiesta was going to be organized and so it has, Globecycle’s HQ has managed to spread the word, place should be cranking, and we’ll be there.
Would be stoked to see all and anyone who wants to attend, venue details below:
Parkinson’s Disease donations are appreciated at: www.Globecycle.org
Within the last decade or so Britain has been making a name for itself in the world of longboarding. With the likes of Ben Skinner, Dudley, Harris and others pushing competitive surfing onto the international stage and getting solid results worldwide, these guys have been laying down a core foundation and providing inspiration for an up and coming generation of young surfers looking to lay down smooth, clean lines and push British longboarding even further in the next decade.
Trevelyan Garland, a.k.a. Trev, is part of this generation and hot on the heels of Skinner and Co. Early in 2009. We’d say Garland is one of the most underrated, young talents within the competitive long boarding scene. He’s quiet, determined and humble, comes from a fishing and surfing background and it’s wicked having a young gun flying the Finisterre flag.
After clinching consistent first and second place wins throughout the British Longboard Union tour, he has won the British Junior title for 2009. We’d like to think that British long-boarding is in safe hands.
Super stoked for you Trev, now tell Charlie to spill the beans on where he’s reeling in the big fish!

Last year a group of 10 fixed gear riders from London planned a trip to Paris, to discover what the scene was around here.
For 3 days, we rode east to west and north to south everywhere in Paris… It was really cool to hang out all together, and get these guys to meet the “locals”.
I remember it was a cold and humid month, and it seems like it was such a long time ago, because so many things have happened since. To me it seemed obvious that this improvised trip needed to be on tape, so I grabbed my scooter and went for some filming… The outcome wasn’t meant to be a really fast and dangerous looking video; the purpose was to show people that riders actually started to travel with their bikes, the only purpose beeing “RIDING”.
Luis Davis
Luis hails from Paris, he’s a cycle polo pro, fixed gear fanatic and a ’spare time’ videographer. We had him fire in some words about the video above, like he mentions in his words and the same reason we dug it - it’s just dudes riding.
Cheers for the narrative Luis, stoked to have you on board this coming year as a product tester, look forward to many more shorts and the stories behind them - stoked!
James Bowthorpe set off about six months ago, he decided to cycle around the world, 18,000 miles on a saddle and at the same time challenge the world record. His bike Santos managed the epic journey and so to did our man James. We’ve been following him over the trip, kept in close contact with his brother Tom over at Globcycle HQ and the host of people managing his GPS location, food drops etc.
He’s arriving this Saturday, from France into Portsmouth. All of those following his journey will be mounted on their trusty steeds and ready to accompany him on a celebration tour of London:
Saturday 19 September

It would be wicked to see all in their iron horses, hopefully we’ll muster a large enough crew to stop traffic. Would be wicked to see you all there, we’ll be in force!
I think that Arcus in Kermit green as modelled by you would be fantastic (XL). I can’t promise to look half as good in it as you!
All is well here. The Bowmonts had an MOT yesterday when I checked on their body condition. We are only a few weeks away from putting the rams in now and I have to get them “fit not fat” which means enough body condition to be healthy but not so much that they lay down fat aound the ovaries etc which affects conception.
They were all wormed and given a vitamin and mineral tonic ( you could see them saying YUKKK! and I don’t blame them - it smelled foul!) One of my older ewes aged 8, now has absolutely no teeth at all but despite that is in very good body condition. Many farmers would put a ewe like that down but she is doing fine and is happy so why should we? She also happens to produce cracking lambs and a good fleece so she is staying put as long as she’s fit.
I’m currently getting organised to take at least one sheep to an AI centre for embryo harvesting. It’s a high tech rather invasive process but it does mean that one ewe which had a prolapse and therefore can’t lamb again will be able to give me some embryos. I can’t afford to lose her genetics.
She only gave me one male who was not good enough to breed from.
Apart from all that - I was really pleased to see you on the RSPCA Good Business awards short list. Do you ever look at www.warmwell.com ? Do take a look sometime. Mary Critchley who runs it from France is a real hero of mine. She did so much during Foot and Mouth and has the ear of DEFRA and government ministers. There is a piece up at the moment about slaughtering. Don’t watch the video. I haven’t got over it yet. And don’t let Ernie anywhere near it!! However, its something we all need to face up to. I’ve just joined The Humane Slaughter Association www.hsa.org.uk as a consequence . They do so much behind the scenes to stop atrocities like this.
BFN,
Lesley
I’ve read this about 10 times and it fires me up every time - you’re so rad Lesley! Lesley is the momentum behind our Bowmont program and she’s quickly turning into a hero of ours. Consider us 21st century cowboys: Lesley (Rare breed specialist) turns Ranch Doctor, Debbie (designer) is now handling ranch logistics and with every ranch comes a few ranch hands. They drive livestock across the land, take their coffee black and every so often have to protect their keep, you come near our Bowmont and you’ll be pushing daisies.
Just a quick shout saying thank you Lesley, this whole program is turning into one of the most inspiring things we’ve done as of yet - super stoked, loads of love and look forward to turning the world right around the kitchen table soon…

80 miles off Sumatra in one of the most remote and waverich zones the world has to offer, lies ‘Kandui’, an obscenely hollow wave with your only option for survival being tucked inside its enormous gaping jaws. Unless you’re confortable pumping inside the barrel, the best you can hope for is to find the right line, exert a little front foot pressure and hold on. If the conditions are right, you’ll take your share of the beatings; but, chances are you might just kick out of the best barrel of your life.
Camping out on a diet of rice and fish, Finisterre rider, Ian Battrick has been out in the Mentawiis charging hard and scoring some super hollow barrels. Check out Ian holding on and looking confortable inside a ridicolously long ten second barrel at Kandui. Some hard core product testing went down as well, as he christened one of our super fine merino t shirts in the biggest barrels they’ve seen yet. Notice the mutant end section, rather him than me.
Warren, our man in OZ; respected designer and ecoguru by day and author by night, for probably the most successful and widely read blogs on the web right now, has just recently slammed together some kind words in Finisterre’s direction. To get up to date on our current happenings, check out the link below.
Awesome episode of Panorama - the most watched one this year. The issues addressed are pretty serious and a few times this year, we’ve been unable to get into the sea at Aggie because of the CSO…and it does stink. Anyway if you missed it, have a look on i-player (link below) and get behind the guys and gals over the road at SAS. (TK)
Martin disappeared back to the IOW for the summer. He’s still been helping us out and also shaping up his own little board from his converted garden shed. It’s 5’ x 20” thick, with a step-deck, winged tail, and 4 wooden fins - all from biofoam - reckon she’s going to fly. Anyway he’s down tomorrow am ready for some action and her first outing - finally looking like we’ve got some offshores and clean surf. Surfed yesterday in 3ft glass - cannot remember the time there was no wind - loving it. Also means we can get out for some fish….stoked (TK).
