Finisterre testers - BBC Underwater cameramen field report
Scattered amongst all the invoices and offers of enhancement, I was stoked to get this email from Doug and John (aka BBC crack underwater unit), filming for the next Blue Planet series. They are putting some of our kit through some heavy field testing….
Message: Update from Down South
Hey Guys,
We have arrived! We hit the Antarctic Peninsula eight days ago after a week at sea, there certainly are some impressive seas in the Drakes Passage - you would love it!
I had expected the Antarctic continent to be impressive but it has far exceeded any of my expectations. It really is an incredibly beautiful place. Huge mountain ranges jutting straight out of the sea, massive icebergs of infinite shapes and sizes, whales blowing and fluking in ever direction - mind blowing stuff.
Doug and I have been getting in the water a fair bit and filming seals under ice. The water is a toasty minus 1.8C, and you thought that the Cornish winter was chilly! Our quest for Orca has now taken us deep into the Antarctic circle and the search continues..
Will keep you updated,
Doug and John.
