The Eddie - the clock is ticking…
Whilst the Irish boys were charging last weekend, on the other side of the World, the opening ceremony of the Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational took place.
Our ambassador – Carlos Burle – is far right in the photo below. A face amongst some great names – Shane Dorian, Noah Johnson, Peter Mel - the waiting period for the Eddie has officially started. So every storm that swings off Japan will be watched with immense anticipation to see if it morphs into the kind of system that will send the required, long period, 30ft+ swell into Waimea. When this happens, contest director George Downing will call the Eddie Aikau event as ‘go’. Remember that it has only been held only 7 times in 20 years, but these are pretty exciting times and as we hear from Carlos, we’ll let you know the highs and lows of being one of the top big wave surfers in the World (he is also planning a trip to Ireland this winter - the Irish boys are stoked).
