3 Days Left…

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

Christmas is nearly upon us, things are busy here as we are down to three, Ernie has gone back home for Holidays so everyone is busy getting all the orders out on time. If you are leaving it to the last minute, you have until 12pm Friday to place an order and receive it before Christmas. The sooner the better as we are selling out fast in some garments, and have completely sold out in colour’s and styles in the Etobicoke and Arcus. Posted by Stevo.

The Eddie - the clock is ticking…

Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

Whilst the Irish boys were charging last weekend, on the other side of the World, the opening ceremony of the Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational took place.

Our ambassador – Carlos Burle – is far right in the photo below. A face amongst some great names – Shane Dorian, Noah Johnson, Peter Mel - the waiting period for the Eddie has officially started. So every storm that swings off Japan will be watched with immense anticipation to see if it morphs into the kind of system that will send the required, long period, 30ft+ swell into Waimea. When this happens, contest director George Downing will call the Eddie Aikau event as ‘go’. Remember that it has only been held only 7 times in 20 years, but these are pretty exciting times and as we hear from Carlos, we’ll let you know the highs and lows of being one of the top big wave surfers in the World (he is also planning a trip to Ireland this winter - the Irish boys are stoked).

Back to the Shire…

Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

With a building swell on our doorstep, we only just made the train and left the Shire, and headed for the Middle Earth that is London.

We were in for interesting times – day one was the ‘Good for Profit’ Event to which we had been invited as social/ethical innovators. We were on hand to speak to a range of businesses about what is we are doing and the way we see businesses should be run. Al Gore was the keynote speaker and was pretty impressive. His message was clear, as any of you will know who have seen his film. There will always be critics, but in my book, anybody who uses their position to get over a vital message is doing a good thing. There are so many people and businesses in a much less positions that do absolutely nothing. If you want to see the situation in black and while, have a look at this video that we blogged a while ago -

On Thursday (again jeans amongst the suits), we went to the House of Lords. This was an experience, but nothing really ground breaking in terms of debate or discussion. Loads of big businesses taking about CSR (corporate social reasonability) – the least that should be done and just box ticking really. It is all movement in the right direction, but what would have been more interesting is finding out businesses expect to increase growth quarter on quarter – as the shareholders expect and demand (as the guy from Timberland pointed out), at the time as expecting to address the ideas of sustainability and resource depletion… (send us an email with any your thoughts – tom@finisterreuk.com).
