THE DEVON COUNTY SHOW
EARLY MORING MEETING
Before work with tales of a solitary surf, riding a 7ft gun at an unknown point till dark, we set off with Skelly to see if the swell was still around.
Switching up the working environment, reflecting on the past year and stoking the fire that started it all; we grabbed some new product to test and headed up to the north of Scotland.
A MOTHERS POLPERRO
We first spotted Simon Skelton across a room, effortlessly sporting a Polperro jumper knitted - in the timeless tradition - by his Mother. This was confirmation of an idea we had been banding around the workshop for sometime so we put the Cornish villages knit pattern into production.
BOWMONT - THE SPINNERS
Knowledge, expertise and the passion to put in a bit of research and delvelopment to get a fledgling flock from fleece to yarn - we spent time in the UK heartland of wool production, with the best in the game.
BOWMONT - THE DELIVERY
With a package as special as this one and to further understand the steps involved in our UK sheep to shelf supply chain, we hired a van and delivered our Bowmont wool to the spinners.
BLESS THEIR WOOL SOCKS
Too excited to wait for their delivery, we travelled up to see our new striped Last-Long sock come off the production line. Bamkins recently celebrated their 125th year in business, here's to stuff that lasts a long time.
Since his call up to run the surf school, Harris Rothschild has been managing this breeding ground of local talent. A deckchaired area welcomes the local crew on their return home, whilst live streams keep up with their surf exploits abroad. This is where fires are stoked and skills are honed; the young inspired and the old encouraged.
HISTORY IN THE MAKING
The first museum dedicated to British surfing is opening its doors on April 6th. It has taken 15 years of research, collecting and fundraising; but for Peter Robinson, an ex ITV News reporter, it is the realisation of a dream. Here is a sneak preview of some of the history the museum is breathing new life into...
LADY OF HER MANOR
This mermaid - inspired and encouraged at an early age by her father - went on to become Rip Curl's Under 18's National English Champion. Trophy's now in a box in the loft and surfing for the love of it, sister skills in abundance and a competitive edge that can take on the boys at a game of their choosing. Arise Dame Sophie Hellyer...
THE MAN WHO WASTES NOT
A professional in waste management, from providing a taxi for the local tip bound rubbish to providing snapped boards for reshaping Richard McGonigal toasts to close friends, family and a goal of self sufficiency.
CARPENTRY AND MEETINGS
A day with Mr Bowthorpe as he works with wood, talks to representatives in Tokyo, picks up his bike in a box from Qoroz and meets with custom cycle jersey makers Milltag.
THE DEVON COUNTY SHOW
The Bowmont's debut at the Devon County Show marks a significant moment in the quest to re-establish Bowmont sheep, and in doing so re-inventing the British fine fibre market.
MADE IN THE UK #2
A round trip in search of heritage, expertise and tradition in order to secure a British supply chain for the Bowmont wool.
2011's Cold Water Championships. One width, close to freezing water and the founder of a cold water surf brand.
