BOO!!
It’s Halloween, we love it and this is Harold the workshop pumpkin and he’ll be keeping his candle burning bright this Halloween, because he’s rocking our waterproof and windroof Anabatic! Harold also said that he loves the adjustable wired peak on the hood, we told him he would! Harold also said that it would be nice if we ran a special promo, just for Halloween and this promo is defo special. So if you’re looking for a lightweight waterproof, now is... Read More
You’re on dude…
“Be courteous to all, but intimate with few, and let those few be well tried before you give them your confidence.” George Washington was a pretty smart dude and if what he says is true, then Mr Bowthorpe has every bit of our confidence. He cycled around the world, paddled the Thames in a boat he built out of scrap wood and is up to something, once again. We feel very close to James and when we meet up in London, or spend time with him under the stars in Dartmoor,... Read More
Falling in love…
She may have dive records and started ocean conservation trusts, but these aren’t the reasons why people dig her and they’re not the reasons that allow her to do what she does. It’s something much more unquantifiable than that, Hanli Prinsloo is all heart, everyday, 24hrs a day. Below is a little piece on her latest trip to the Maldives, she’s fallen in love… All photos taken by the gifted – Jean Marie Ghislain Falling in love the Maldivian... Read More
The winter prep
Winter swells are going to start pumping soon. Big wave surfers all over the world are packing their stuff, putting their houses up for rent, so they and family can move to the North Shore of Hawaii for the winter. Once they arrive, it’s lean diets, big training sessions and sizing up their tow set-ups. We found this little short on Carlos, talking us through one of his biggest waves ever caught on the North Shore, epic, we love you big man! Read More
Finishing what you start
I’ve always been a runner, if I don’t run – I get tetchy, but I’ve never been one for races. New year’s 2011 I decided I needed a challenge, so I signed up for the Eden Project Marathon and I got into my long Sunday runs along the coastal paths of Cornwall. I suffered sun-stroke back in May on a midday 10-miler, a chill in an August squall, and tendonitits a month before on my longest training session of 18 miles, but by-and-large I loved the journey... A ship in harbor is safe…
A ship in harbor is safe – but that is not what ships are for. ~John A. Shedd I think we’re all ships (defo sounds cheesy), yes safe feels good, but I definitely feel that adversity, chance, putting ourselves in risky situations – keeps us alive, maintains our happiness. Mr. Shedd is right, ships weren’t meant for harbors and we weren’t built to stay safe – all the time. We just got this email from a customer of ours, Mr Peter Wood, we loved... Read More
behind the scenes in the workshop
Work experience is a funny thing. Sometimes you have to hold hands and other times they just get stuck in. This past summer, we’ve been super lucky, powered by Debbie, our work experience program has been amazing and the people who applied, were out of this world – you all know who you are! Gavin, hailed from Scotland, he wanted to get 2 weeks in the workshop, see how things work and get a better idea as to where he could point his energies towards, in the future.... Read More
Commitment…
Commitment is a big word, when I first met Tommy, it was the only word in his vocabulary. To commit to something, to put your name to something, to do it with a ruthlessness, an unwavering level of conviction – it’s a pretty inspiring thing. When we all got together 6 years ago, tents in a backyard and a bank balance big enough to get us to London and back – commitment was the only thing we really had. So we all committed to building Finisterre and with that,... Read More
Lost and Found
As a passionate natural historian and intrepid crypto-zoologist one of the topics I follow with the upmost interest is the dynamic world of species lost and species found. It is well documented how we are on the verge of, or in the middle of the sixth global mass extinction. With the loss of such animals as the Yangtze River Dolphin and Pyrenean Ibex (in the last 10 years) it is easy to get depressed about the current state of things. It is with some irony then that we also find... Read More
we made a new one!
So we did it – the time, the meetings, the discussions, the sheer work – it has been a journey. We met loads of people on this journey and they were defo cool. Some people talked loads of silly stuff, others were invaluable, both of you know who you are I think what I wanted to do here was just list a few pointers, there’s nothing to hide here, it’s not rocket science, we built a site and if there are others out there trying to do the same, then we’re...
